Skillz n Drillz

Skillz n Drillz 2024
Ashton United in the Community (AUITC) has wrapped up a successful summer football
program, providing free coaching sessions to disadvantaged children and young people in Ashton Hurst. The initiative, supported by Sported and the Barclays Community Football Fund, offered fun and engaging sessions for all ages and abilities.
In partnership with community organizations like SSHCC, Jigsaw Foundation, Great Academy Ashton, Tameside MBC, and SSHCAG, AUITC reached a total of 315 children over four weeks. Qualified coaches, assisted by semi-professional players, led the sessions, which included drills, games, and a healthy lunch.
"We're thrilled with the response to our Summer Football Skillz & Drillz program" said AUITC Trustee Andy Clayton.
"It's been a fantastic opportunity to provide children with a safe and enjoyable way to stay active during the school holidays while learning new skills and making friends", “He’s really enjoyed coming and I wanted to say thank you. It’s such a great thing and we’d be lost without it. Some of the other clubs that are all day can be too much during the holidays, this is perfect and he loves it. Let me know if there is anything we can do to help, maybe providing drinks, snacks that can keep it going,” Kelly Yates
The program was particularly beneficial for children who normally access free school meals, as AUITC's 'Holiday Hunger' scheme provided a healthy snack. Overall, the summer football program has been a resounding success, with positive feedback from parents and coaches alike. AUITC is already looking forward to future
opportunities to engage with the local community and provide more sporting activities for young people.
